The England captain is the top scorer in the league with 18 goals, and his latest strike against Mainz was his 80th in the division. It is safe to say he is on fire for the German giants, who certainly know how to get the best out of him.
Kane hit 36 goals during his first Bundesliga season but will be aiming to beat Lewandowski’s 41 goals through just 29 games as he continues to find the back of the net.
Speaking to Absolut Fussball, Basler has backed Kane to smash the record and claim Bundesliga player of the year once again.
“I think Harry Kane is a different kind of player. Lewandowski wasn't the type of player who worked so hard defensively. Harry Kane does that.
“Kane is sometimes deployed as a backup to Nicolas Jackson when he comes on as a substitute, and he also frequently operates in midfield, winning the ball and distributing it. I believe he has a chance to break the goal scoring record this season. For me, he is an exceptional striker and the player of the year.”
Kane is on course to win the Bundesliga once again and if he can claim the league title as well as either the Champions League or World Cup he may come close to lifting the Ballon d’Or once again.
