Chelsea have recalled Aaron Anselmino from his loan deal at Borussia Dortmund, which has sparked anger in the Bundesliga side.

The 20-year-old moved to Germany in August on a season-long agreement which included a break clause that the Blues have now activated this week, much to the Bundesliga sides’ frustration.

The 20-year-old defender has made 10 appearances and grabbed a goal and an assist during his time with the side where he formed a number of friendships in a short period of time.

An emotional goodbye

Anselmino sent a message to Dortmund fans on Instagram:

“It was an incredible 6 months, thank you so much for the love you gave me from day one, I wish you all the best!! Heja BVB.”

Yan Couto wrote: “Brother!!! What a pleasure it was to play with you these past 6 months! Best of luck in your future. You're a star on and off the pitch. I hope we see each other again soon, brother. I love you so much, my friend, I'm going to miss you.”

Fabio Silva added: “Thank you for all the moments we shared, my dear little brother! I wish you all the best. I'm going to miss you so much, but I'll cherish everything we experienced and your friendship. Thank you for everything! I love you very much.”

Anselmino was visibly moved by the decision as Dortmund shared a video captioned “an emotional farewell” which showed the youngster hugging his teammates with tears rolling down his face.

BILD claim that the decision has left Dortmund chiefs “astonished” and “furious” with Chelsea’s decision and are disappointed that the deal was cut short.

Chelsea signed Anselmino from Boca Juniors in 2024 and made his debut off the bench late on in the Club World Cup 4-1 win over Benfica.

Dortmund now have just a week before the January transfer window closes on February 2nd to find a replacement for the Chelsea youngster who will be curious to see why the club recalled him.
