The young defender is currently on-loan at Kompany's former club Hamburg from Tottenham.
Ahead of this weekend's clash, Kompany said: "He's a great talent. The Bundesliga is a very difficult league to develop as a young central defender. You have to be physically strong. Having a key role at HSV is ideal.
"He needs to listen carefully
to his good coach. He doesn't need to do much more. I just hope he doesn't play well against us this weekend."
On Hamburg, Kompany also stated: Returning to Hamburg? It's still a special moment for me, as is Hamburg, the city. Living there was special and still is. But I also know that HSV is going through a rebuilding phase.
"When things are stable and calm, I know, thanks to my time there, that there's potential. When things are healthy, stable, and good, they're a team that should normally be at the top of Germany.
"That's still the feeling. The preparation for this match was good. They're good at home. I expect a team that fights for points, that believes in itself at home. But we have full confidence in ourselves and are really fired up for this match."
