Manchester City have threatened legal action against Enrique Riquelme, the man running for Real Madrid presidency against Florentino Perez on June 7.

This comes after the renewable energy entrepreneur promised that Haaland would become a Madrid player if he won the election this weekend.

“Haaland has a release clause and wants to join Real Madrid,” Riquelme claimed on El Hormiguero (The Ant Hill) on Wednesday night while holding up a Los Blancos shirt with "Haaland 9" on the back.

The 37-year-old arguably thought it was a clever ploy to land more votes than his rival Perez, but his attempt has already backfired, with City denying the information and exploring legal action for using their player’s image on purpose.

Haaland’s father, Alfie, and agent Rafaela Pimenta have also shut down the prospect of the Norwegian goal machine joining Madrid this summer.

"All very entertaining but NOT true. We wish all the best for both candidates in the Real Madrid elections," they said in an exclusive statement.

The 25-year-old only signed a record-breaking nine-and-a-half-year contract in January 2025, extending his stay at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.
