Tottenham have agreed a £52 million transfer for Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke.

The Dutchman has one year left on his contract at the AMEX Stadium, but this agreement suits both parties, with Roberto De Zerbi personally pushing for his signature.

De Zerbi was a huge fan of Van Hecke during his time on the South Coast, and now he's set to rekindle that connection in north London.

Speaking about Tottenham's agreement to sign one of the Premier League's best defenders, Van Hecke's uncle, Jan Poortvliet, has offered his thoughts in an interview with Sportnieuws.

“Fantastic, truly wonderful,” Jan Poortvliet said.

“This is going to give him an extra boost during the World Cup. This is such a great motivation. He doesn’t have to worry about it anymore either; full focus on the World Cup and then off to London. That is also more fun than Brighton. This is a city you love to visit.”

The 25-year-old is currently on World Cup duty with the Netherlands, and he started alongside Virgil van Dijk as they drew 2-2 against Japan in their opening game.

Van Hecke will become Tottenham's third confirmed signing of the summer after Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, as excitement builds ahead of a new campaign.
