Kyle Lafferty has suggested that Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso could make a surprising return to Rangers, where he enjoyed a brief but memorable season as a player.

The 47-year-old has been in charge of the Italian national team since June 2025 and is focused on guiding the Azzurri to the World Cup through March’s play-offs.

Rangers recently appointed Danny Rohl as their new manager following the departure of Russell Martin, but Lafferty believes Gattuso could be a perfect fit for the Scottish club in the future.

Former Northern Irish international Lafferty described Gattuso as a “great man” and suggested that his leadership and experience would make him an ideal candidate.

“I’m very happy he’s leading the Italian national team because I have great respect for him,” Lafferty told I Love Palermo Calcio.

“He’s a great professional as well as a great man. Given his past at Glasgow Rangers, I hope to see him lead them one day. I’m convinced the relationship between him and the Scottish club would be excellent.”
