Pep Guardiola has played down concerns over Erling Haaland’s fitness after Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The reigning champions saw their five-game unbeaten run ended at Villa Park, with Matty Cash’s first-half goal proving decisive. The result leaves City trailing further behind leaders Arsenal, who edged Crystal Palace 1-0.

Haaland endured a frustrating outing, missing several chances including one comfortably saved by Emiliano Martinez shortly after Cash’s opener.

The Norwegian striker later had a goal ruled out for offside and collided painfully with the post in the closing stages. At full time, he was seen walking down the tunnel looking dejected, sparking fears of a potential injury.

However, Guardiola moved to ease those concerns, saying he hadn’t yet spoken to Haaland after the game but added, “Hopefully he is fine.” City will hope their talisman is fit as the title race intensifies.
