The Spanish champions are actively searching for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, whose departure has left a major gap in attack. According to Marca, Alvarez remains Barcelona’s priority target, with the Atletico Madrid forward topping their shortlist after an impressive spell in Spain following his €75 million move from Manchester City in 2024.
However, negotiations with Atletico are proving extremely difficult, as the club are unwilling to sell their star man, especially to a domestic rival, despite Barcelona’s offer of just over €100 million.
As a result, sporting director Deco has drawn up contingency plans, with Sesko among the leading alternatives alongside Serhou Guirassy and Karl Etta Eyong.
Sesko joined Manchester United in 2025 for €76.5 million and scored 12 goals in his debut season, following his prolific spell at RB Leipzig.
