Slot was fired from his Liverpool job in June following a disappointing 2025-26 season, in which Liverpool qualified for the UEFA Champions League by the skin of their teeth.
The 47-year-old Dutchman won the Premier League in his first season in charge on Merseyside.
According to Sky Sports' Florian Plettenberg, Slot is on the KNVB's shortlist to succeed the resigned Ronald Koeman, who left his role after a disappointing FIFA World Cup campaign with Oranje. The Netherlands were eliminated in the round of 32 after Morocco beat them on penalties.
Plettenberg reports that initial talks have already taken place, while other candidates remain in contention. Italian transfer guru Nicolo Schira reported earlier in July that Erik ten Hag, currently the technical director at FC Twente, is also a candidate.
Slot began his managerial career at Cambuur Leeuwarden in 2016, and took charge of AZ in 2019. The former midfielder left AZ for Feyenoord in 2021 and enjoyed a fruitful four-year spell in Rotterdam, winning the Eredivisie in 2023 and the Dutch Cup in 2024, while also reaching the final of the UEFA Conference League in 2022.
