Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has criticised the 2026 FIFA World Cup schedule after his side’s exhausting 3-2 extra-time victory over Cape Verde.

The win leaves Albiceleste with only three days to recover before their round-of-16 clash against Egypt on Tuesday.

Preparations have also been disrupted after a storm in Miami forced the team to cancel Saturday morning’s training session.

Scaloni voiced his frustration with the tournament calendar, arguing that the reduced recovery time during the knockout stages places an unnecessary physical burden on players.

"What comes from now on? Now to rest. I don't know how the World Cup is made but we have had six days and now we have three and a half,” he told the media.

“When you need the rest the most, you have the least. It's a very difficult thing to understand, it should have started gradually. But oh well, that's the way it is."
