Manchester City saw their first bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson rejected on Wednesday night.

Anderson emerged as City's top target to replace Bernardo Silva, who is leaving the Etihad Stadium once his contract expires.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a remarkable campaign at Forest, establishing himself as one of the Premier League's best midfielders, while becoming a lynchpin of Thomas Tuchel's England setup.

Man City are expected to return with another bid after their first was rejected, with Evangelos Marinakis reportedly holding out for more than the £105 million Arsenal paid for Declan Rice in 2023.

Whether City cough up that amount remains to be seen, but it's certainly a saga that will rumble on throughout the summer.

That is because Anderson isn't agitating to leave Forest and is firmly focused on a strong World Cup with England, according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett.

Anderson "will not force a move away" from the Europa League semi-finalists and is prepared to wait patiently, arguably accepting that is opportunity to shine at a top club is on the horizon.
