Aston Villa are in the hunt for a new striker this summer, and perhaps Matias Fernandez-Pardo is the perfect candidate.

Fernandez-Pardo was called up to Belgium's World Cup squad by Rudi Garcia after an incredible campaign at Lille saw him register 13 goal involvements in 29 Ligue 1 matches.

The 21-year-old is a centre-forward by trade but is equally capable of playing on both wings, and he's drawn admiration from some of Europe's biggest clubs, most notably Barcelona and Manchester United.

However, according to Sacha Tavolieri, Aston Villa are also keeping a "close eye" on the talented forward as Unai Emery looks to supply Ollie Watkins with some strong competition.

Tavolieri has revealed that "initial contact" has been made with the players' representatives and the English club, while the highly-reputed journalist also offered insight into what Villa's scouts think of him.

"Aston Villa scouts particularly appreciate his top speed and his ability to make a difference as a centre-forward. His physical presence, his runs in behind the defence, and his clinical finishing in the final third are exactly the characteristics sought by the Premier League club," he wrote.

Naturally, reading those words would be a source of excitement to supporters, and Villa's hierarchy are waiting to see how he performs against top-level opposition before deciding to pursue negotiations.

Fernandez-Pardo was introduced for the final five minutes as Belgium laboured to a 1-1 draw against Egypt in their opening group game at the World Cup
