Marcelo Bielsa has dismissed the controversy surrounding his awkward World Cup photoshoot, insisting he is under no obligation to behave like a model.

The Uruguay head coach went viral after repeatedly looking at the ground during FIFA’s official media session before the tournament.

Following his side’s 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia in Miami, he was asked about the incident but brushed off the attention as insignificant.

"I don't have to give any explanation," said Bielsa as reported by ESPN.

"The picture was taken the way it was taken. I'm not a model. I have no answer for that. Should I also explain why I don't look at those who are speaking now? There are no explanations for me to give."

After a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia in their opening match, Uruguay will be aiming for a positive result against Cape Verde in their next Group H fixture before concluding their World Cup campaign against Spain.
