The ex-Villan has suffered for most of this season with injury issues, but was decisive for the Italian team this weekend.

Davis scored the winning goal in a relegation decider against Frosinone on Sunday, coming off the bench to do so.

Manager Fabio Cannavaro lavished praise on Davis, stating: His (Davis') absence affected the team because a player like that can turn a match for you.

I didn't know whether or not to field him from the start. But all the lads were exceptional."

I'm so happy," said Davis.

I was out injured for a long time and I wasn't able to show the fans what I can do. But then I came back and the more I played, the more I built up my confidence. I'm delighted to have helped the team and our fans.

It was tough out there today. We knew Frosinone wanted to win at home. It was difficult but we pulled out all the stops. I wasn't thinking about scoring myself I just wanted us to win.

Next season I'll be able to start in pre-season and I feel ready. I can't wait to get going again. I want to have a big season."
