After being stripped of the captaincy after refusing to sign a document declaring back surgery would leave him sidelined six months, both parties have now reached common ground - which has included the German's captaincy being reinstated.
Before last night's Gamper Trophy against Como, in front of the Blaugrana fans and during the team presentation for next season (as is customary), he gave a special speech.
With microphone in hand and a round of applause from the Barcelona supporters at the Estadio Olimpico, Ter Stegen said: "Good evening everyone. Thank you so much for coming to the Johan. We obviously all share the same enthusiasm and want to return to the Spotify Camp Nou, our home, there's really not much time left."
Warming up his vocal chords, he then turned to his personal situation: "I think it was important to resolve the issue between me and the club, and it's time to look forward. We're very excited about the start of this season; it's a very challenging season, there are only a few days left, and we're working to achieve great success."
And again: "We start today against Como, with many familiar faces and friends who used to play for Barça. Last season we won three titles, and there are teammates who are no longer here, and we want to thank them on behalf of the entire team. Furthermore, we now have some new faces, including a very familiar one, Tek (Wojciech Szczesny).
"We want to welcome them and offer them our full support. With these new additions, we will be stronger, and I'm sure they will integrate very well into this dressing room. We need to improve in some areas, as always, and we will fight so that, with your help, we can win as many titles as possible."
Finally, Ter Stegen addressed coach Hansi Flick: "Thanks to Hansi and his staff, we had a wonderful season last year. He brought us back some very successful football. Thank you, Hansi and all the staff. Now we have a team with a lot of character, great energy inside and outside the dressing room, and I hope we will achieve many successes."
Barca need Ter Stegen to accept the six-month absence in order to secure permission from LaLiga to spend 80 per cent of his wages on registering players before the season deadline.
