Sweden are almost certain to miss out on the World Cup after they were beaten by Kosovo on Monday evening in what was an embarrassing loss for a side brimming with talent.
Sweden now sit rock bottom of Group B on one point despite Isak and Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres playing the entire game against Kosovo, who have only ever beaten one other team in 22 previous World Cup qualifying games, having become a UEFA member in 2016.
Speaking to Dagens Nyheter after the game, Isak was furious with his side, who have looked pathetic so far as their World Cup dreams fade.
“I don't know. We players are so f*cking dissatisfied.
"And as I've said before, we take a lot of responsibility ourselves. We look at ourselves in the mirror. And no one is approved. Not us players, not us as a team.
“And that of course includes the coach and everything around. But those questions, we don't get involved in them.”
Head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson is under mounting pressure due to the team’s dire results and said he was dumbfounded by their lack of goals so far.
"I have a contract with the Swedish federation, and we are in the middle of qualifying.
"Of course, it's not good enough and it's a terrible result. It really hurts, we forgot how to score goals and I don't know why."
Isak and Gyokeres are both suffering in the goal department at the moment and will now return to their respective clubs with their confidence even lower as Sweden fail to reach the World Cup.
