FIFA president Gianni Infantino has voiced his ‘full confidence’ in Mexico as a host nation for the World Cup despite ongoing security concerns.

Mexico was rocked by a string of cartel attacks in the city of Guadalajara earlier in the week following the killing of drug lord El Mencho.

Guadalajara is set to host four World Cup games in the summer, but the recent security concerns have seen increased calls for them to be rehomed.

Infantino has since tried to ease tensions, saying: “We are analysing and monitoring the situation in Mexico at the moment.

“From the outset, I want to express our full confidence in Mexico, in President Claudia Sheinbaum and in the authorities. We are convinced that everything will unfold in the best possible way.”
