Neymar replaced Matheus Cunha in the second half of the contest, ending a staggering 981-day absence from the national team, dating back to October 2023.

The Santos winger has had a tough fight against injuries but when Rodrygo dropped out the first team, a door opened for Brazil’s all time top scorer as he aimed to make history.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star got a huge ovation from the Miami crowd and was moved to tears in what was an incredible comeback.

Speaking after the game, he revealed he could not hold his emotions back as he praised goalscorer Vinicius Jr.

“I was crying in the dressing room, yes. I thank God to be able to help my country, I am so happy," Neymar said.

“Vinicius Jr is our star at this World Cup. He’s deciding games, he’s doing great”.

Vini Jr: “It’s been magic to see Neymar back! He’s our IDOL, for all of us”.

Brazil legend Ronaldinho also joined Neymar on the pitch and embraced him in what was one of the best moments of the World Cup so far.

The Selecao are now set to face the runner-up from Group F as they continue their World Cup run.
