After scoring twice in his side's 5-0 thrashing of Uzbekistan, Ronaldo moved onto 10 World Cup goals as he silenced his critics who believe he does not have what it takes to cut it in the Portugal side.
Ronaldo now has 975 career goals and 145 for Portugal where he has established himself as an ever present character despite being 41 years old.
However, many believe this will be his final World Cup and Mills spoke to betTOM about how the legendary player is more likely to be a manager than a player as he comes to the end of his career.
“Unless Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the player-coach for Portugal at the next World Cup, I can’t see him playing” he said.
“I’m not sure you can justify starting Ronaldo for Portugal in four years' time. He’s one injury away from being done; the body doesn’t heal or recover anywhere as effectively once you enter your 40s. He’ll be involved in one way or another in 2030, but I think it’s a dream to imagine him in the starting XI.
“It goes without saying he’s an outstanding footballer with incredible numbers to his name. But I think there are a few too many egos and star players who won’t be buying into the idea of playing for Ronaldo - in contrast to how the Argentinian squad is built to serve Lionel Messi.”
Portugal need to beat Colombia to finish at the top of Group K, and Ronaldo is expected to start once more for his country who just can’t seem to drop him as he defies all expectations.
