The former Chelsea boss acknowledged the quality of the star-studded French squad but believes Sweden have the opportunity to produce a major upset.
Sweden reached the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams after securing a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Japan in Dallas.
France, meanwhile, progressed as group winners with a perfect record, finishing the group stage with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Norway.
Speaking to the Swedish FA’s official website, Potter said competing against one of the world’s best teams on football’s biggest stage is a moment everyone at the club is relishing.
"It’s going to be a fantastic match, the kind of game you dream of experiencing as a child,” he said.
“Playing in New Jersey against France in a World Cup knockout match - it doesn't get any bigger than that.
“They are one of the best teams in the world, and we obviously have huge respect for them, but we are really looking forward to the match."
