Luis de la Fuente's young team beat England in the final in Munich to reignite hopes of another period of domination for La Roja after winning three major titles from 2008 to 2012.
Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal scored a superb goal in the semi-final win over France on route to defatting England and he netted his first World Cup goal in Spain's 4-0 group stage victory against Saudi Arabia at the 2026 competition.
Despite concerns over his fitness coming into the World Cup, De la Fuente is confident the 18-year-old is now back up to full power after missing the final weeks of Barcelona's 2025/26 season through injury.
Expectation is sky high over Lamine Yamal leading the team to a world crown - but former Spain international Cesar Azpilicueta is wary of too much focus being placed on their No.19.
"When people talk about Spain winning this World Cup, of course they point to Lamine Yamal as being the key," he told BBC Sport.
"But you cannot win a World Cup on your own, especially this one with an extra game, probably some extra time in the knockout rounds, plus the heat and all the travelling as well.
"The important thing for De la Fuente is that, along with Lamine Yamal, he has the squad he needs for the next month. At Euro 2024, he used all 23 outfield players during the seven matches. Everyone will have to be ready this time too."
If Spain progress past Austria in their first knockout tie of the competition, De la Fuente will face either Croatia or Portugal in the last 16, with that game scheduled for July 6 in Arlington, Texas.
