Thirty-five-year-old Mexican actor Cristo Fernández is embarking on a journey as a professional footballer. The fictional football star Dani Rojas from the series Ted Lasso has signed a contract with the American second-division team El Paso Locomotive after a successful two-month trial.

Before starting his acting career, Fernández played football, but his time with Mexican club Tecos was cut short by an injury at the age of 15. In his new team, just like in the series, he will play as a forward.

"Cristo is a great addition to our squad, another attacking threat. His passion for the game and leadership qualities help our locker room continue to grow in a positive direction," ESPN quoted coach Junior Gonzalez as saying.

The 35-year-old could make his debut at the end of May in a cup match against Alta. "Football has always been a huge part of my life and identity. I never gave up on the chance to play professionally. I am extremely grateful to El Paso for opening the door and giving me the opportunity to fight for my place from day one. It has always been about believing in yourself, taking risks, and chasing your dreams. Maybe I’m a crazy person with crazy dreams, but all of this makes sense to me," Fernández said after signing with Locomotive.
