Neymar clashed with referee Savio Pereira Sampaio after picking up his third yellow card in four games at the start of the month.
The former Barcelona star expressed his frustration after the game, with reports translating one of his comments as:
"Anyway, Savio (the referee for the clash) is always like that. I think he woke up… (laughs) how do you say it… Woke up on his period and came to the game like that today."
Now, one week later, Neymar has spoke on his Youtube channel about the controversy as he claims he meant nothing by the comments which landed him in hot water.
"I said it in a lighthearted way, I meant that he was annoyed and didn't want to talk much... I had no intention of offending any woman.
"The expression 'chico', I didn't know it was short for that. I should have just said he was stressed and didn't want to talk. I meant no harm at all. Things are changing a lot nowadays. These discussions are part of everyone's evolution."
Numerous people deemed the striker's comments offensive, with viewers flocking to social media to express their views on his response.
However, after his response the former Paris Saint-Germain star be forgiven as he did not know exactly what he was implying.
