While a success in Italy with the Rossonero, former Chelsea defender Tomori has been largely ignored by the Three Lions.
He told the Athletic: "Coach (Thomas) Tuchel and I spoke a few months ago, and he said I'm in the running and that there's not much to do, just keep moving forward.
"In football and in life, anything can happen. I'm focused on myself, doing my best to help myself, to help Milan. And then, as I said, I hope to be called up."
Meanwhile, Tomori also discussed teammate Christian Pulisic.
He said of the USA captain: "People underestimate him. People don't realize how fast he is. They don't realize how good he is with the ball, how intelligent he is.
"You only realise that when he scores a goal. I knew him from his Chelsea days. Puli is a top-notch professional. A truly top-notch guy.
"He's always wanting to improve. If he misses a shot in training, he asks himself, 'Why did I do that?' But he's really calm and pleasant to be around; he's very balanced.
"His goals-per-minute ratio is incredible, and despite the injuries this season, every time he's been called upon, he's done his part.
"I know it was frustrating for him to be injured, and it was frustrating for us too because he's been incredible."
