Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is set to become a free agent after Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq confirmed the mutual termination of his contract.

The Netherlands international will leave the Dammam-based side ahead of the 2026/27 season, bringing an end to his two-year spell in Saudi Arabia.

Wijnaldum joined Al-Ettifaq in 2023 as one of the club’s marquee signings and quickly established himself as a key figure in the squad.

Despite the club's decision to part ways with the veteran midfielder, he enjoyed a productive campaign and remained an influential presence both on and off the pitch.

The 35-year-old often captained the side and played a vital role in linking midfield and attack as Al-Ettifaq finished seventh in the league.

He also enjoyed an impressive return in front of goal, scoring 16 times and providing seven assists in 33 league appearances.
