The Arsenal midfielder was substituted at half-time of England’s win over Norway in the quarter-final and Tuchel has since revealed that he had spent most of the previous three days in bed due to illness.
This is a huge concern for the Three Lions heading into the Semi Final where they will need to be at full strength to beat champions Argentina who will take any advantage they can get heading into the clash.
Rice also had a stomach problem in the aftermath of the last 16 game in Mexico City 10 days ago as he fights against illness to represent his country in what is an incredible feat.
The Telegraph report that the illness is likely due to the high heat in the US and Mexico but state that the air-conditioned stadium in Atlanta in Wednesday’s semi-final should help him compete for what might be 90 minutes and extra time if needed.
Despite the good news, the BBC state that Rice has also been carrying a neural problem for several months that affects his lower back and hamstring. This means he may not feature regardless of air conditioning which is a huge worry for Tuchel.
England also have fitness concerns over Ezri Konsa due to cramp and Tuchel must look over his squad on Tuesday and make some huge decisions on who can make an impact against the South American side.
