That need for a new defender may now have been made even more urgent after Chalobah, 26, limped off in their 4-1 friendly win over AC Milan on Sunday (August 10).
Chalobah was forced off in the 57th minute and was replaced by wonderkid Josh Acheampong.
As reported by BBC journalist Nizaar Kinsella, Chalobah was able to walk off the pitch unaided but did appear to be in some discomfort before receiving aid on the side of the pitch.
