West Ham United suffered relegation to the Championship last season, but this was not enough to dismay Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman in selecting Summerville who has kicked off the World Cup with a bang.
Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch played a short pass to Summerville on the right edge of the area who moved infield before curling a shot that bounced into the far corner, handing Netherlands the lead.
A fortnight ago, Crysencio Summerville was uncapped, but now he has three appearances and his first goal which he dedicated to Van Nistelrooy who will have taught him a few finishing techniques behind the scenes.
“I felt joy and pride, I can’t really describe it. It was a childhood dream come true! I think my family are all super proud. I’m thankful to God.
“Ruud (van Nistelrooy) and I work very closely together, especially on finishing,” he explained. “He’s given me a few tips, on how to become an even better finisher, how to position myself and my body positioning.
“I had promised him that if I scored, I would run to him as a way of saying ‘thank you’!”
According to Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness, the 24-year-old is wanted by Roma and a reported £35M bid is suspected to come for him over the next few months, especially as he shines for his country on the biggest stage.
