Earlier this week, Wolves rejected a second Newcastle bid for striker Strand Larsen, who scored twice in the win over West Ham on Tuesday night. There has been no third offer as things stand and Wolves’ current stance is that any bid will be rejected.
However, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, the 25 year old is keen on a move to Tyneside with just a few days of the transfer window remaining.
“Jorgen Strand Larsen politely informed Wolves of wish to make Newcastle move. Chairman Jeff Shi told 25yo not possible this window. No new #NUFC bid yet + #WWFC stance is all offers to be rejected; looking for 2nd striker, not replacement.”
Strand Larsen, who only made his loan move from Celta Vigo permanent for £23M this summer, scored 14 Premier League goals last season and is one of the best young strikers in the English top flight.
If he does seal a move to Newcastle then it could free Alexander Isak who has not been allowed to leave as the club seek a replacement. However, The Athletic state that Newcastle see him as a replacement for Callum Wilson, rather than Alexander Isak which will only add fuel to the fire as he is further denied a move.
The Magpies are still scrambling in the last few days of the transfer window to find a striker and if Strand Larsen comes in and Isak stays then they could potentially have two great striker options for the rest of the season if the Swedish international does commit himself to the club.
