The Gunners fell to a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at the weekend, which has blown the title race wide open. Arsenal have failed to beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City so far this season and their poor form in big games is a huge worry for many supporters.
Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes argued that manager Mikel Arteta and his side need to step up in big games or face bottling the title once again.
"Man City have a great chance now, don’t they?" the United legend asked. "I still don’t think they’re quite right but they always get better in the second-half of the season and the thing with Arsenal is they can’t win a big game.
"Until they start winning big games they’ve got no chance of winning the league," he said. "They lost to Liverpool, they couldn’t beat Man City at home when they were struggling. Aston Villa are a good team, don’t get me wrong, but Arsenal just can’t win big games.
“They couldn’t beat Chelsea after they went down to ten men. If you’re going to win the league you’ve got to start winning some big games, you’ve got to beat your rivals, and they can’t do it. Historically, Man City always get better after January. They were in the Club World Cup so they didn’t really have a pre-season."
Arsenal remain two points clear at the top of the Premier League standings, even after suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Villa at Villa. Meanwhile, title rivals Manchester City are catching up after a string of games which will concern Arteta who needs to start picking up 3 points.
Saturday’s home match against bottom of the league Wolves gives the Spaniard the perfect chance to get back on track however as his side aims to extend their lead at the top.
