Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes admits he is baffled by Rasmus Hojlund leaving the club.

Hojlund was forced out of the United squad by manager Ruben Amorim who opted to rearranging his side this summer. The Danish international has since headed to Napoli on loan, where he has thrived.

He has scored four goals in six games in all competitions under manager Antonio Conte, proving many critics that he can find the back of the net despite his poor form in the Premier League.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast, Scholes admits he is dumbfounded as to why United let him go.

"You look at Rasmus Hojlund, 22-year-old kid, came when he was 20 years of age.

"One centre-forward for Manchester United and everything was on him, the pressure was on him and he couldn’t handle it.

"He should be coming in and out of the team. There should be three or four centre-forwards there.

"This summer, what do they do? They let him go, and they buy another one, very similar, exactly the same!

"22 years of age. He’s started ok, he looks like he’s getting better. But where’s the common sense in that?"

Scholes, like many United fans, is confused by the club’s transfer policy, which often lets talented players leave to thrive elsewhere whilst they sign similar assets.

Hojlund has now scored eight goals for club and country this season, and he shows no sign of letting up as United watch on in envy.
