A number of Amorim’s pre-match decisions raised eyebrows as Man United prepared to face Premier League champions Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday (October 19).
Perhaps the most notable was his choice to leave in-form striker Benjamin Sesko on the bench, despite the fact he has scored two goals in his last two games.
Thankfully for Amorim, his decision paid off, and after the 2-1 win he explained why he made the call.
"Especially in the bad moments you have to go with your gut,” he said.
“The most important thing for a manager. Sometimes the characteristics of the game change the way we approach it. Cunha in the middle, if we put Ben it is easier for these kinds of centre-backs to control our striker."
He added on the significance of the final result: "Of course it is really important. I don’t have many wins in Manchester. Every detail of this game, the spirit when we suffer a bad moment, all the small things, perfect. Let’s try to do that next week."
