Ajax rejected the chance to hire Oliver Glasner as coach in 2023, it has been revealed.

The Crystal Palace manager was former Ajax chief Sven Mislintat's top choice when he was between jobs after leaving Eintracht Frankfurt.

Instead, Ajax's board rejected the prospect of taking on the Austrian, states AD.

Ajax directors, despite Mislintat's recommendation, were concerned about hiring a non-Dutchman and instead chose to go with Maurice Steijn, from Sparta Rotterdam.

However, Steijn lasted only until October, while Glasner was named Palace manager in February 2024. A Europa League winner with Eintracht Frankfurt, Glasner led Palace to FA Cup glory last season.
