Xabi Alonso and Enzo Maresca are both candidates to replace Pep Guardiola should the Spaniard leave this summer.
Guardiola has been at the club since 2016 and during his decade in charge has won a plethora of trophies, including the Champions League a multiple Premier League titles.
Alonso, who was sacked by Real Madrid after a doomed six-month tenure, has also been linked with a return to Liverpool where he commanded the midfield two decades ago.
Alonso is currently without a club but despite this, Petit spoke to Ignition Casino about how he would turn the side down if the Liverpool job opened up at the end of the season.
“If Xabi Alonso has the chance to come back to Liverpool, even if the door is open at Man City, I'm pretty sure he would join Liverpool.
“He has a connection to Liverpool. He's been a player over there, and he won trophies over there. He failed at Real Madrid, but that has been the case for many managers over there.
“I think if he has the chance to join the Premier League, Liverpool would be the perfect club for him.
“It’s like Mikel Arteta’s connection to Arsenal, it would mean he wouldn’t consider joining Manchester City even when Pep Guardiola leaves.”
When questioned about his future in January, Guardiola stated: "I have a contract. I said a thousand million times. It's 10 years here. I will leave one day, but I have a contract."
According to RMC Sport, Xabi Alonso was considered by Olympique de Marseille before the Ligue 1 side sped up talks with Habib Beye who is set to be announced by the side after the sacking of Roberto De Zerbi after a 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
