Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has stated manager Mikel Arteta and his side may have slipped up.

Chelsea held on for a 1-1 draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal despite Moises Caicedo's first-half red card in what was an intense London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The draw means Arsenal's lead at the top of the Premier League is cut from six to five points as rivals Manchester City beat Leeds United 3–2 thanks to a late goal from Phil Foden.

Speaking to Snabbare, Petiti has revealed that the draw may hurt Arsenal’s title hopes and that many fans will have expected more than a share of the points after Caicedo was sent off.

"We will never know what might’ve happened without the red card, but I think Arsenal missed the opportunity to put more pressure on Chelsea, one of their biggest opponents for the title.

"And when I look at the Arsenal players and the fans, I think the fans, everybody, even the players, they thought to themselves, 'Maybe we missed an opportunity to put Chelsea nine points behind us.'

"Chelsea and City are second and third on the table, the biggest opponents for Arsenal to win the Premier League. And here we are. I've seen Arsenal struggling against Chelsea, and they conceded the goal, playing 11 against 10.

"When I look at Chelsea from what they've done so far last season, winning trophies, winning the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain. They're able to win against top teams. They smashed Barcelona in midweek.

"So this team has such a big margin in front of them to improve. But still, for me, they look impressive. Not getting three points could turn out to be a big blow for Arsenal."

Arsenal will look to return to winning ways on Wednesday when they face a London rivals once more in Brentford, who will travel to the Emirates Stadium.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has overseen five defeats from six Premier League away games this season in what looks like an easy win on paper for the Gunners.
