Arne Slot’s side kept applying the pressure and eventually got the equaliser after Florian Wrtiz’s effort took a heavy deflection off Nordi Mukiele.

The German playmaker thought he had scored his first Premier League goal since joining Liverpool, but the Premier League have confirmed it will go down as an own goal.

It was ultimately another disappointing night for Liverpool as they down in eighth with 22 points from their 14 games.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Jones, 24, lamented having “another one of those nights” as their poor form continues.

"We've got the guys in the team that can play, score and assist. We have asked for more aggressiveness. Flo (Wirtz) ran and tackled and it's just a shame that it goes down as an own goal.

"We are playing against a team that sat back a bit. It's one of those nights again."
