The 26-year-old is confident in his ability to hold down a regular first-team place under manager Ruben Amorim despite club splashing £130million on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha to help United’s poor creativity and goal scoring threat.
Cunha and Mbeumo will improve the side
The England international has endured a difficult first two seasons at Old Trafford following his £60 million transfer from Chelsea. He has played fewer than 50 games for the Red Devils due to consistent injuries.
Despite his setbacks, Mount is optimistic and believes that the new season is a fresh start for the club who he thinks will improve after the arrival of fresh faces.
"Any time you do get that opportunity to be on the pitch, you want to do something," Mount stressed. "You want to affect the game. That's always the way I've looked at it.
"Any opportunity you get, you've got to try and take it. And, yeah, I mean, I'll always back myself. I know what I can do. But we're a team and we're all working together in that.
“Obviously with the new signings coming in, they (Cunha and Mbeumo)'re going to elevate us to another level and we all need to be at that level to really perform.”
Mount will fight for a place under Amorim
The England international backs himself to compete for a spot under Amorim who may not have his name first on the team sheet when United face Arsenal in their first Premier League fixture.
"He (Amorim)'s definitely given that confidence to me from the first day he came in, speaking to me, and I know what he wants, and I feel like I know how he wants the team to play. And, obviously, I've had some experience in that role as well.
"So that helps with the younger lads coming in and me helping them understand the positions of the formation and everything. So yeah, it's been brilliant and definitely having that confidence, the manager has that confidence in me to go out there and perform, it definitely helps as a player."
Squad morale is high
Finally, he opened up on squad morale and how the United side are working well not just on the pitch but off it to boost relationships which will help chemistry and team bonding.
"It's been brilliant. We're all doing stuff together away from the training pitch, spending time with each other. That's massive for a long season where you're about to go in and fight against other teams. We're in a really good place and there's still time for us to work at things and everything like that. But we're good and we'll be ready for it."
