Manchester United are reportedly considering keeping hold of Casemiro but only if he takes a pay cut.

Casemiro featured for Brazil this week in a 3-2 loss to Japan, which came as a shock as Paulo Henrique and Gabriel Martinelli helped the side to a 2-0 lead at half-time.

The Brazilian played a full 90 minutes and did the same against South Korea last week as he maintains his fitness. He remains a key figure under manager Ruben Amorim, but now it seems like his time with the club may be over.

As reported by ESPN, the midfielder would likely have to accept a pay cut if he wants to stay as the club continue to cut down their wage bill and wave goodbye to some of the club’s highest earners.

The Portuguese manager is planning a major overhaul of his midfield and the 33-year-old likely isn’t in his plans going forward, despite his obvious ability and vast experience.

Fellow teammate Harry Maguire is also rumoured to in a similar situation, and the new deal set to be offered to him will be of a lower salary that matches his commitment to the side. Casemiro and Maguire could leave the side in the twilight of their careers, or stay with United and try to turn the side around.
