The 1958, a prominent fan group, anticipates more than 6,000 fans will march to Old Trafford before next week’s clash with Fulham in what is one of the biggest protests in the club’s history.
Having gone out of the League Cup and the FA Cup, United are in for another trophyless season after sacking manager Ruben Amorim and splashing £200M on the squad during the summer.
The 1958 released a lengthy statement this week, detailing why the protest is going ahead, here are the key parts about why the event has been organized:
“Twenty-one years of a debt mountain, mismanagement and financial greed is 21 years too long. Enough is enough.
“So we protest not just against the Glazers, but now also against INEOS and Ratcliffe, a man once seen by many, including ourselves, as a possible saviour, a beacon of hope.
“But now revealed as complicit in the ongoing erosion of everything that makes our club what it is.
“We will not be silent. We will not be complicit. Jim Ratcliffe, you have chosen your side, and it is not ours.
“You now stand shoulder to shoulder with the Glazers. You are no saviour.
“We call on every Manchester United fan who truly loves the club to join us in a march of solidarity and unity to show these despised owners how much we demand change right at the top.
“This is not about Carrick and results. It is about our ownership. We have been down this path of false hope too many times.”
The group emphasised that the protest is concentrating on the "dysfunctional ownership model" and not recent match results after last weekend’s derby win against Manchester City and state:
“The situation is undeniably worse. We beat City, but one swallow does not make a summer.”
