The 26-year-old has started two of Man City’s three Premier League matches so far under manager Pep Guardiola who will be without the winger who picked up a knee injury while on international duty with Egypt this week.
The forward was taken down while playing against Burkina Faso in World Cup Qualifying and instantly clutched his knee, which was a sign that he would not feature against in the Manchester derby this weekend before he was assessed by City’s medical team.
His absence was confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano who revealed that after being examined by the medical staff, he will not be a part of Guardiola’s side.
“Omar Marmoush is ruled out for Man City vs Manchester United due to a knee injury suffered with Egypt.
“Marmoush will now return to Manchester for more assessment and to begin his rehabilitation.”
Guardiola's side host neighbours United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday as they seek to pick up a crucial three points after losses to Tottenham and Brighton which have seriously damaged their title chances.
