Manager Ruben Amorim has spent big this summer as he splashed out over £200M on the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo who are yet to make an impact on the side at the start of the season.
Amorim, aware of Mainoo's desire to leave, expressed how he wants the England international to stay:
“I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his place, and we need Kobbie. So that is not going to change.
“The rest I don't know how it's going to finish. I understand that the players that are not playing in this moment are disappointed, but everyone has the same opportunity to play. You have to fight during the week.”
Now, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, Mainoo is said to be staying at United even if he sees his future elsewhere as the transfer deadline draws closer.
“Understand Manchester United have informed Kobbie Mainoo about zero chances to leave today.
“The case is closed. Mainoo stays at Man United this season despite request to leave on loan.”
Former Rangers striker Ally McCoist claimed that Mainoo’s situation at Man Utd is “bizarre” and like many, believes the youngster is unlikely to win the battle to start ahead of captain Bruno Fernandes.
