The 77-year-old’s wife Mai Angulo admitted yesterday that Toshak son’s claims were wide off the mark in what is a stunning turn of events after reports took his son’s word as gospel.
“Cameron only knows what he talks about very occasionally on the phone with his father. He hasn’t seen him for two years. That’s why it really surprised me that he said this,” she said.
"It's a terrible disease," Cameron explained. "It's the short-term memory where we're seeing it – I speak to him most days and if we chat in the afternoon, he might not remember that we also spoke in the morning."
Toshak denies dementia claims
The former Liverpool star admits he battled Covid-19, which his wife claimed left him with “severe after-effects, both physical and mental”.
Toshak has now laughed off the claims as he jokes about forgetting certain parts of his playing career.
"Dementia? Not yet," Toshack told El Mundo with a smile. "I’ve forgotten all the goals I’ve missed, but I remember perfectly the ones I’ve scored."
However, the Welshman did spend 16 days in a Barcelona intensive care unit due to Covid-19 and admitted that he nearly lost his life as health complications follow the former player.
"I was lucky to make it," Toshack reflected on the experience. "The doctors told me that if I hadn’t been an athlete, I wouldn’t have survived."
