Liverpool are reportedly set to sign Club Brugge defender Joel Ordóñez as they aim to improve their defense.

Since the start of the January transfer window, the Premier League champions have been linked with several players. However, none of the deal look as solid as the one for Ordonez who looks to be a done deal for manager Arne Slot.

This comes from a number of reports including Ecuadorian newspaper Diario Expreso who state that Ordóñez is “set to join Liverpool with a lucrative contract” and is “one signature away” from finalising the deal.

Reports also claim that his new contract with the Reds would also see him earning close to triple his current salary at Club Brugge which will only push the deal further forward for the defender.

According to reports from Bolavip, the Merseyside club are now in pole position to secure the teenager’s signature after Chelsea cooled their interest earlier this month.

The 21-year-old Ecuador international would be vital cover for Slot following injuries to Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez. He would also be an excellent for the future as both Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate grow more experienced.

Liverpool are also linked with Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi who is entering the last six months of his contract at Selhurst Park in what could be a bargain deal for Slot and his side.
