The Cityzens successfully captured Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi from Bournemouth and Crystal Palace, respectively, having established themselves as some of the best players in England's top-flight.
Semenyo and Guehi have since made a brilliant start to life at the Etihad Stadium, even if their influence couldn't help City win the Premier League title ahead of Arsenal.
Nonetheless, the strategy of signing proven players in England's top-flight could continue this summer, as Man City have shown an interest in Everton's Iliman Ndiaye as a possible upgrade on Savinho.
Tottenham are advancing in talks to sign Savinho after missing out on him last summer, and Ndiaye being on their radar will be music to the ears of Jack Grealish.
The Englishman spent last season on loan at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, striking an on-field connection with the Senegalese dynamo, even labelling him the "most skilful player in the Premier League".
"Ndiaye is the most skilful player in the Premier League. In terms of pure skill, yeah,” Grealish said in December.
"I'm not sitting here saying, oh yeah, he could be the best, but skilful. Saka, for example, is so good, one of the best wingers in the world. But he's not skilful."
Grealish's future is up in the air as he returns to Manchester following a fruitful loan spell at Everton. But those comments on Ndiaye - who scored six goals in 32 appearances last term - may just convince Man City to capture him.
