Liverpool signed striker Isak from Newcastle United for a British record transfer fee of £125M on Monday night, with the striker saying he "wanted to create history and win trophies" at Anfield under manager Arne Slot, who is unbeaten so far this season.
His move did not come without controversy however as Isak made it clear that he wanted to depart The Magpies, which led to him being omitted from their pre-season tour of Asia. He then refused to play in their opening three games of the 2025-26 Premier League season and trained alone ahead of the move.
Isak’s transfer has created a lot of talk surrounding player loyalty and the strength of contracts in the modern market. His agent, Lemic, has only added fuel to the fire however as he sent a message to Newcastle, who he likely isn’t on the best of terms with after such a saga.

Isak claimed that Newcastle had broken promises and the relationship could not continue in a statement last month. It was clear that he would never play for the side, but many claimed he should honour his contract that he wanted out of.
Isak, who will wear the number nine shirt with The Reds will now be on international duty with Sweden before returning to Merseyside where he will join the Liverpool squad who face Burnley after the international break. He expressed his relief in joining the side on Monday, as he spoke to the club website.
“I feel amazing. It’s been a long journey to get here. But I’m super-happy to be a part of this team, this club and everything it stands for. It’s something I’m proud of and I’m really looking forward to it.
“It’s mixed emotions – some relief but a lot of pride, happiness. I’m just happy it’s done and that I can get back to work. I’m looking forward to seeing my teammates and the fans, and getting back out there."
