According to Fabrizio Romano, the veteran midfielder has already agreed personal terms with the Stamford Bridge club and is keen to return to London.
This is yet to be an agreement between the two clubs, however, with Sunderland insisting that Xhaka is not for sale.
The Switzerland international enjoyed arguably the best form of his career under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen, playing a key role as they lifted their first ever Bundesliga title in 2023-24.
