Ahead of today's clash with Liverpool, Glasner praised the senior players who have stepped up as several teammates have moved on over the past 18 months.
“You know me, I don't always want to mention one single player, but I think in these two years, there was a big change within the club,” Glasner noted. “Many experienced players left, let’s say starting with the captain Joel Ward, with Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp – many players who also led the dressing room.
“There were players who led the dressing room and players who led the team on the pitch, like Michael Olise, like Eberechi Eze, like Joachim Andersen, like Marc Guéhi. That means a massive change, not just in football, but in the team dynamic, in the dressing room and on the pitch.
“That means players have to step up. Players get a different role. Let’s say the first one who got a different role was Marc, because all of a sudden he was the captain. I think he did very well, and I think also this experience helps him now perform that well for Manchester City.
“Then, it's Dean Henderson. He's our number one. Before, it was always Sam Johnstone or him. He's our number one now, and I think this is what he expresses in every single game, with a lot of confidence and a great aura.
“There’s Maxence Lacroix, who came from Wolfsburg, and many asked ‘why did you sign this player?’ I think he stepped up. Chris Richards, the same, from playing on the bench, now being a fixed player in the defence.
“I think in midfield, there’s Adam (Wharton). It's his first Premier League season, full Premier League season, because last year he was injured so often. In the dressing room is Will Hughes. He's so important for us, for this group.
"There's players leading the team on the pitch, not always just with their individual performances, but with their consistency from here, like Ismaïla Sarr, like Tyrick Mitchell. Always showing a very, very high and good standard, every single game.
“This consistency helps to get confidence, because we can rely on them. If they’re struggling a little bit, another one comes in, and we can rely on them. This has happened in these last two years.
“To be honest, when I talk about it, it makes me maybe most proud that we could create a new hierarchy in the dressing room and on the pitch. I really want to say ‘we’, because it can't be the Manager alone. It's always together, with the players, with the group, and also with the club, because the club signed these kind of players. I think that’s worked really well.”
