Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has spoken to the press as he prepares to take on Nottingham Forest.

Forest have not lost any of their previous 10 competitive meetings with the Eagles in a worrying statistic for Palace who are in crisis mode at the moment after the departure of Marc Guehi, the impending departure of Jean-Philippe Mateta as well as Glasner at the end of the season.

Mateta is out

Glasner first spoke on Mateta who is linked with both Forest and a number of Italian sides. He confirmed he will not feature in the squad as transfer rumours grow.

"Again, there is so much noise, so much speculation, so many things going on. We need every single player at their best and JP isn't at his best right now with all the noise that happens.

"It can be football noise, but if someone has private issues where they can't focus on football, then it makes no sense to play. He can't help the team and perform at his top level. We decided it is better not to play him."

Glasner suggests Mateta will stay

Interestingly, Glasner continued on Mateta and implied that the Frenchman will stay despite the incessant stories stating that he is seconds away from signing on the dotted line for another club.

"I know when JP stays he will be highly motivated because he has a big dream to play for France at the World Cup.

"Therefore, he needs to perform, and he needs to play better than he has played in the last few weeks. That is what he knows.

"Right now, it is tricky, but I am pretty sure 2 February, when the window closes, everybody has the same goal for a successful season. The individual goal for every player, they want to play for their country at the World Cup.

"That is why I can still sleep well."
