Tottenham and Bayern Munich in talks to reduce Joao Palhinha transfer cost in a bid to make his move permanent.

Palhinha, who joined the German side from Fulham in 2024, was limited to just 17 Bundesliga appearances last season and has since found himself in North London on a season-long loan deal.

Manager Thomas Frank is said to impressed with the midfielder’s work rate so far. Palhinha recently became the Premier League's top tackler, with the midfielder now having overtaken Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo, making a league-high 49 tackles so far in 2025/26.

The Portugal international has a purchase clause in his contract, which is currently set at around €30M. Reports claim that Frank and his side are reportedly opening talks to lower such a fee in an attempt to sign him on a permanent basis.

Also, according to Nicolo Schira, Tottenham have already reached an agreement on personal terms with Palhinha for a contract running until 2029 which would lead him into his mid 30s.

Scoring four times and assisting twice, Palhinha is also enjoying his best-ever campaign for goal involvements in his career. He has clearly rediscovered his best form under Frank, who is keen on keeping hold of the experienced playmaker for the foreseeable future.

Negotiations between Spurs and Bayern are expected to progress rapidly over the coming weeks in a deal that may be completed in the January transfer window.
