Everton are in the market for new defenders this summer as David Moyes plans for a second season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Despite failing in his goal of bringing European football to the banks of the River Mersey, Moyes remains ambitious in his goals, and 2026/27 will be a crucial campaign for the veteran coach.

Moyes has already splashed around £55M after activating purchase clauses on loan stars Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George and bringing in Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough.

However, Moyes is also looking at least two new full-backs, following the exit of former club captain Seamus Coleman and uncertainty over Nathan Patterson's long-term future on Merseyside.

Right-back has more focus than left-back, after Vitaliy Mykolenko signed a contract extension earlier this summer, and Adam Aznou remains as a squad option.

Replacing Coleman is a tall order for Moyes and reports from Sky Sports claim Tottenham's Djed Spence has been discussed as a target, with a bid potentially tabled after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Spence has played in both full-back roles for England at the tournament, but his place at Spurs is unclear, with Pedro Porro signing an extension and Andy Robertson rivalling Destiny Udogie at left-back.

The 25-year-old is under contract in North London until 2029 - with the option available for Spurs to extend for another year - and Everton will have to offer at least £30M to open talks.

Any potential transfer fee could increase if Spence garners interest from other Premier League clubs with the World Cup acting as a shop window for his talents as a versatile defender.
